Heart racing ... Sweaty palms ... Nervous pacing ...   It's a Panic Attack!

A panic attack is a scary situation, and when it is a philosophy that invades your marketing approach it can also be dangerous to your business. We can help you recognize the signs and learn how to avoid the traps.

When your widgets aren't selling as well or as fast as you hoped, it is hard to avoid hitting the panic button. Often your first instinct will be to launch an emergency ad campaign announcing a new lower price or special deal. But stop and think before you hit that button.

If you start barking about the latest and greatest deal with neon colors and a row of exclamation points, you have lost control of your message and your audience. By running these panic ads you are training your audience to focus on the incentive and not the value.

You've worked hard to establish the value of your product or service. Don't cave in and start slashing prices at the first sign of trouble. If a price reduction is in order, don't let that take over your message. Keep the focus on the benefits and quality of your product or service and don't trumpet the new lower price.

This is a hard line to hold when the competition around you is using flashing red arrows and inflatable gorillas to draw attention to their latest price reduction. But with proper planning ahead of time, we can help you take some of the panic out of your marketing and help you focus on the true message.

Blog - that's such an ugly sounding word. A long-time friend has an informal list of words that just sound dirty even though they have harmless meaning - sort of a take on the famous George Carlin list. But that's a story for another newsletter.

Global Marketing Solutions is blogging on our site and for some of our clients. It is a great way to create your own buzz. Our current blog is part of our MySpace page but is linked to our

corporate site. Just look for the Global Conversations link.

If you have a MySpace account, you can send us back a comment. Or if there is a topic you'd like to have us address or vent about, just shoot us an email at April@GMStheBest.biz or Laura@GMStheBest.biz.

If you don't personally know someone who has battled or is currently battling cancer then either you have a very small circle of acquaintances or you and your friends and family have been extremely fortunate.

Oftentimes when you hear that someone you care about has cancer, you feel helpless. But there is plenty that you can do to help your friend and others. This month we are joining the American Cancer Society in sharing some important information that we can all use.

One-third of all cancer deaths in the U.S. could be prevented by following a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy weight. Here's what we can do with this information:

  • We can get active and encourage others to do the same.
  • We can encourage healthy living.
  • We can get involved in efforts to make my community healthier.
  • We can pledge to eat right.
  • We can help a loved one undergoing cancer treatment!

As many of you know, April underwent surgery earlier this month. She is at home and recovering well. She sends her thanks for all of the prayers and well wishes. The doctors still have her under a no-talking order so the best way to communicate is in writing via email at April@GMStheBest.biz or via snail mail at 1916 Bay St. Foley, AL 36535.

Thanks for spending time with our newsletter. We welcome your comments and ideas.

Birthdays are
a Time for Taking Stock

Everyone looks at New Year's Day as a time for resolutions, looking back and looking forward. But there is so much pressure associated with knowing that everyone else is doing it. Taking stock is more important and should be more personal.

For us it is birthdays that warrant a little introspective tour. We can look back on the valuable lessons learned in life. Remember that time when you tested the frozen pond with the biggest rocks you could find and then found out the hard way that it wouldn't support you? Remember too the milestones reached and the relationships that have stood the test of time.

Happy Birthday and many more to come!
